Farewell to Quino (Joaqun Salvador Lavado Tejn), the father of Mafalda he was 88 years old. All good people in the country and in the world will mourn him,

The son of Spanish emigrants, Joaquin Salvador Lavado, this is the designer’s real name, was born in Mendoza on July 17, 1932.

The comic

The strip dedicated to Mafalda, her family and her group of friends, released from 1964 to 1973, in Latin America and Europe: it was first published in the Argentine magazine Front page. The books, translated into over thirty languages, have sold millions of copies. In 2014 Quino was awarded the 2014 Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities for the enormous educational value and universal dimension of his work and for the characters who transcend all geography, age and social condition.

The transfer to Mendoza

Quino died in Mendoza, the city where he retired in 2017, after leaving Buenos Aires following the death of his wife. The cartoonist had suffered from health problems for years but had continued to follow exhibitions and tributes dedicated to his work. According to local press reports, he had suffered a stroke in recent days, which caused a worsening of his health condition.
