1st International Humor Exhibition of Curitiba – Capivara Humor 2026
The 1st International Humor Salon of Curitiba revives he tradition of major humor salons across Brazil and the world, restoring to the "smiling city" a space to laugh deeply, think lightly, and provoke with empathy.
More than just an artistic event, this salon is an invitation: a call for cartoonists, editorial artists, caricaturists, and graphic artists from around the globe to express themselves freely and consciously on social, philosophical, and health-related issues.
Regulation
Dates: September 01, 2025 – January 25, 2026.
Realization: Capivara Humor is a realization of the Instituto Ocellaris Escola de Arte.
Support: Instituto Ocellaris.
Exhibition: The works enrolled in the competitive show will be exhibited from March 30 to April 15, 2026.
Main Theme
Bipolar Disorder: between euphoria and darkness
- The choice of theme is not random. It’s necessary. In times when mental health is one of society’s most pressing issues, humor can be a powerful tool for demystifying, welcoming, and reflecting.
- Bipolar disorder is an invisible challenge for many and profoundly real for those who live with it. It is characterized by intense swings between two emotional poles: euphoria and depression.
Modalities
Unpublished works can be presented in three modalities, with only 01 (one) work per category:
1 Cartoon – Theme: Bipolarity
Cartooning is the quintessential form of humorous drawing: original, creative, and often sharp. But it can also be compassionate, critical, reflective, or inclusive.
2 Caricature – Theme: Bipolar Disturb
- In this category, artists are invited to caricature a historical celebrity known to have shown traits of bipolarity .. (Limit: one vertical drawing).
3 Editorial Cartoon (Charge) – Theme: Public Figures
- The charge is humor with a date and address. Satirical and provocative, it portrays public figures in current, often absurd or critical situations using exaggeration, irony, and mockery.
4 Comic Strip – Theme: Bipolarity
- Text in Portuguese, English, or without text / maximum one page.
Participation
- Artists of any nationality, amateurs or professionals, over 18 years old, may participate.
- Each participant can register unpublished drawings.
- Drawings that have already been awarded cannot be registered until the closing date.

Size: 30 × 21 cm (A4), JPEG, 300 DPI
Technique: Free (traditional or digital).
Printed works on couch/A4 are accepted.
Delivery in person: Atelier Laqua Parla – Rua João Carlos Figueiredo, 94 – bairro Guabirotuba, Curitiba – PR.
AI-generated works are not allowed.
The works, unpublished, should be original.
Registration
- Each artist may enter a maximum of 01 work per category:
Cartoon: graphic humor according to the main theme.
Caricature: humor expressing the physical/personality of a celebrity.
Comic Strips: sequential graphic art (max. 2 pages).
Editorial Cartoon: humor about any current global theme.

Awards
Money Prizes:
1st Place (each of 4 categories): R$ 1,500.00 → Total R$ 6,000.00
2nd Place (each of 4 categories): R$ 1,000.00 → Total R$ 4,000.00
3rd Place (each of 4 categories): R$ 500.00 → Total R$ 2,000.00
Total Awards: R$ 12,000.00 (Under the responsibility of the Instituto Ocellaris).
Trophies: For the top three in each category.
Certificates: For three honorable mentions in each category.
- There will be no more than one award per author in each category.
- If this happens, the award will be destined to the author who obtains the most subsequent score.
- Other awards and mentions may be instituted at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.
Important: Registrations abroad must apply for a bank with branch in Brazil.
Judgment
- There will be a selection jury and another of awards
composed of qualified people from the area.
- The award jury reserves the right not to allocate awards to categories that do not reach enough level, transferring to other
categories or creating a special hall prize.
- If the award jury finds some kind of irregularity, fraud or plagiarism in one or more registered work, it may cancel the award granting it
to another artist next to its classification.
- The award -winning works will be released on the official page and on the Instagram profile page of the Capivara Humor saloon after the inauguration and may be contested until a week after the opening of the hall with proof of any irregularity committed without the jury’s knowledge.
Ownership and Rights
- All registered works (awarded or not) will be purchased for the Instituto Ocellaris.
- The works will be part of the collection of the Capivara Humor collection, which will be able to participate in traveling shows, dissemination in print, television, electronics and be published in books and magazines.
- When participating in the contest, the artist will be agreeing with the rules of the regulation.
- By registering the author automatically transfers the assignment of copyright of his (s) works in accordance with Law No. 9610 of February 1988 (Copyright Law) in a total, universal and definitive manner in all Modalities of use and for free, the rights of author, safeguarded by the said Law referring to the award -winning work(s) at the Capivara International Humor Salon, which joins the research cultural collection and Disclosure of the national graphic mood of the Instituto Ocellaris Brasil for all the purposes of rights that reserves to make them the use you can.
This salon invites artists to use their linework, irony, and creativity to shed light on the bipolar experience, demystify mental suffering, and help end the stigma surrounding mental health.
