Voivodship and City Public Library  Cyprian Norwid announces the XXII Open International Satirical Drawing Competition.  PLASTIC is this year's theme of the competition.  At a time when global warming, climatic disturbances, depletion of fossil energy sources, environmental pollution are becoming the world's biggest worries, it is no less important to protect the earth from plastic pollution.  Plastic surrounds us from everywhere.  Plastic packaging, plastic clothes, plastic toys.  Plastic, which a few dozen years ago was a wonderful material that saved natural resources and forests, is becoming a big problem.  It turned out that it has more than just advantages.  Media reports say about the pollution of the oceans with plastic, the death of marine fauna that swallows this plastic.  If we continue to pollute the oceans with plastic, they will probably have more plastic bottles than fish in 2050 .  Plastics released into the environment decompose for hundreds or even thousands of years.  In the food chain, microplastic finally reaches our tables.  In 2021, an EU directive will come into force that prohibits the use of many plastic products, such as disposable cutlery, plates and drinking straws.  It's a small light in the tunnel.  We should take care of the reuse of plastic packaging, because currently 90 percent of the plastic is not recycled.  Plastic raises a lot of controversy.  Plastics commonly called plastic are present in almost every area of ​​our lives and it would be difficult to do without it.  They have many advantages used even in medicine.  Many of them are part of the life-saving equipment.  Plastics are lightweight, impermeable to water, guaranteeing stable conditions inside the packaging.  So plastic is not always bad.

In everyday life, we can actively shape our attitude as a conscious, ecological inhabitant of the earth, who uses plastic materials with caution, tries to replace it with biodegradable materials.  We can also create such responsible attitudes perfectly using sharpened satire.  Pay attention, brand.  Accurate insights on the risk of plastic abuse, given in an attractive form of satirical drawing, can play an educational role, as the effects of the competition in the form of an exhibition of the best works will be shown in many galleries and showrooms in the country.  The slogan of this year's competition is ambiguous.  For authors whose literary plastic theme will not affect their imagination, completely different associations with plastic may be helpful .  Plastic is a term often something cheesy, kitschy.  So you can treat the theme of this year's competition in a more or less serious tone just as satirical.
