Kaktus 2025 proudly presents: The Solution / Die Lösung

Artists have always been an important voice during times of upheaval.

Cartoonists, with their often unconventional and humorous contributions, can highlight problems, question preconceived opinions, and thus make a valuable contribution to the debate.

So today, we ask the cartoonists of this world: What is the solution?

The solution to what? Each artist decides for themselves.

Big or small problems, simple or complex, serious or funny.

Because humor can bring the lightness needed to find a solution.

Prize Money:

The Kaktus Cartoon Award 2025 – The Solution/Die Lösung honors the three best cartoons, selected by an independent jury.

1. Prize: 2,500 Euro

2. Prize: 1,500 Euro

3. Prize: 1,000 Euro

Submission:

Cartoons can be submitted for Kaktus from June 10, 2025 to July 9, 2025. Further information below under “Submit Cartoon”.

Award Ceremony & Exhibition:

The best cartoons, selected by an independent jury, will be presented in an exhibition in Linz and on tour.

The award ceremony and opening of the exhibition will take place on October 15, 2025, at the Schlossmuseum Linz.

The supporting program includes:

– Discussion panels on selected topics from the submitted cartoons

– “What If…” workshops that inspire future thinking

– Award-winning documentary series Draw For Change, offering an insight into the lives and working realities of 6 female cartoonists

Submission

We are very pleased about your interest in participating in the Kaktus Cartoon Award 2025.

Submitting your work is easy – simply use the upload form at the bottom of this page.

How to submit – step by step:

1. Personal information: In the first step, we ask for some information about you. All required fields are marked with an asterisk (*). Click on “Continue to Upload” to proceed.

2. Upload your cartoons: You can upload up to three cartoons. Once all desired files are uploaded, click “Continue” to proceed.

3. Accept and submit: Submission is only possible once you have accepted the terms and conditions of participation.

4. Final confirmation: After submitting, you will receive an email with a confirmation link. Important: Only by clicking this link will your submission be completed. Please be patient – this may take a few minutes.

Who can submit?

Professional cartoonists aged 18 or older.

You must meet the requirements listed below to participate. Previous publication in the media is not required.

What can I submit?

Original cartoons that address the theme “The Solution.”

A maximum of three cartoons per person may be submitted.

We focus on human creativity, so we prefer cartoons created by humans – either drawn by hand or digitally.

If your cartoon (or parts of it) was created using AI, this must be clearly indicated, including the name of the provider and the AI model used.

How can I submit?

Cartoons must be submitted digitally only via the form and upload function at the bottom of this page.

Accepted file formats: .pdf, .psd, .jpg, .tif, .png

Resolution: Must be suitable for printing in A4 format at 300 dpi.

You may submit up to three cartoons in total.

Language: Any speech bubbles or captions must be in German or English.

If it’s not possible to change the text in the cartoon itself, the translation must be provided in the form.

Submission period

Cartoons can be submitted between 10th June and 9th July 2025, 11:59 PM (CET).
