CENTRAL THEME: “Dreams / Challenges” (Hopes / Achievements)

Dreams and challenges are intrinsic parts of the human journey, interconnected in such a way that achieving dreams often involves overcoming obstacles. The pursuit of personal and professional goals often encounters situations that require grit, ambition, and resilience to overcome. Life under pressure, with its uncertainty and constant change, requires the development of the ability to adapt and persist, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.

DATES: Registration: August 1 to September 30, 2025

HOST – The Caratinga International Humor Show is organized by the Caratinga Cultural Station.

Support: Caratinga City Hall

EXHIBITION – Works entered in the competitive exhibition will be on display from October 21 to 26, 2025.

MODALITIES – New works may be presented in four categories, with only ONE work per category.

TYPES – New works may be submitted in four categories, with only 1 (ONE) entry per category.

1 – CARTOON – “Dreams / Challenges” (Hopes / Achievements)

2 – COMIC STRIPS / COMICS – “Dreams / Challenges” (Hopes / Achievements) (with or without text in Portuguese / Maximum of ONE page)

3 – CARICATURE – Theme: FREE (VERTICAL)

4 – CARICATURE TRIBUTE: (VERTICAL)

5th Jal&Gual Festival

Theme: Cartoonists of Brazil

TYPES – New works may be submitted in two categories, with only 1 (ONE) entry per category. The Festival themes are:

1 – CARICATURE “Cartoons of Brazil” (VERTICAL).

2 – CARICATURE Theme: EDRA (VERTICAL)

In celebration of 45 years dedicated to graphic humor and the 20th edition of the Caratinga Humor Salon,

PARTICIPATION – Artists of any nationality, amateur or professional, 18 years of age or older, are welcome to participate. Each participant may submit unpublished drawings. Drawings that have won awards by the closing date are not eligible.

IMPORTANT: Submissions will only be accepted by sending, in a SINGLE MESSAGE, the drawings entered in all categories in which the artist will participate, along with the following information: Full Name / Artist Name / Address / CPF / ID / Phone Number

TECHNIQUES – DIMENSIONS: 30 cm x 40 cm. The unpublished works must be original. The technique is free. Works printed on coated/A3 paper will also be accepted. The use of AI – Artificial Intelligence – will not be permitted.

PRIZES: Cash: R$500.00 (five hundred reais) for the top finishers in each of the six categories, totaling R$3,000 (three thousand reais), fully funded by the City of Caratinga.

IMPORTANT:

Registrations from overseas must indicate a bank with a branch in Brazil.

Trophies: For the top three finishers in each category

Certificates: For the three Honorable Mentions in each category

– There will be no more than one award per author in each category. Should this occur, the award will go to the author with the highest subsequent score.

– Other awards and honors may be instituted at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.

JUDGING –

There will be a selection panel and an awards panel composed of qualified professionals in the field. The awards panel reserves the right to withhold awards from categories that do not achieve a sufficient level, transferring them to other categories or creating a special Salon award.

If the awards panel finds any irregularity, fraud, or plagiarism in one or more submitted works, it may cancel the award and award it to another artist in the next ranking. The winning works will be publicized on the Salão de Humor de Caratinga’s blog and Facebook page after the opening and may be challenged up to one week after the opening of the Salon with valid evidence of any irregularity committed without the jury’s knowledge.

    All submitted works (awarded or not) will be acquired by the Associação Estação Cultural de Caratinga. The works will be part of the Salão de Humor de Caratinga’s collection and may be featured in traveling exhibitions, published in print, television, and electronic media, and published in books and magazines. By participating in the contest, the artist agrees to the rules and regulations.

By registering, the author automatically transfers the assignment of the Copyright of his/her work(s) in accordance with Law No. 9610 of February 1988 (Copyright Law), in a total, universal, and definitive manner, in all forms of use and free of charge.

The copyright, protected by said law, pertaining to the work(s) awarded at the Caratinga International Humor Salon, which will become part of the Cultural Collection for Research and Dissemination of National Graphic Humor of the Caratinga Cultural Station Association for all purposes, and reserves the right to use them as it sees fit. Mere registration automatically implies agreement to the terms and regulations.
